The Advantages of Using Microscope in Neurosurgtttical Procedures

I n most of the Neurosurgical Centres the microscope used routinely in many procedures while it is still a matter of preference in others.The microscope provides excellent lightening and magnification that can define the delicate neural structures and its relations . Using of the microscope in the surgical procedures to remove a pituitary adenoma is essential to define the optic nerves and chiasm and the adequate magnification provide the excellent chance to free an optic nerve from the engulfing tumour. While the use of microscope in the removal of a glioma provide a view that can differentiate between normal and abnormal tissue more, which is the key point to have better outcome.For all the non governmental hospital in Iraq the use of microscope in neurosurgical procedures were abounded by inadequate equipping of their theatres ,while In Al Moosawi private hospital in Basrah the neurosurgical theatre applied with a surgical microscope that have been used for the first time in craniotomy for removing a pituitary adenoma , it was the first time in Iraq a non governmental hospital provide such facilities , although it is well equipped to all types of neurosurgical procedures , using of the microscope will be introduced for many surgeries and will be added to the reasons of good performance and improvement in the outcome.The second time used in removal of a small neurofibroma that settled in the conus medullaris and lead to foot drop ,the microscopically fine dissection attained removal without excessive manipulation leading to good out come as the deficit improved .The Neurosurgical theatre in Al Moosawi private hospital is in progress and soon will be applied with neuroendoscope in order to develop the neurosurgical services delivered for the patients in south of Iraq.
